My Volvo had a busted boot above the y pipe o I bought all new boots and noticed both flaps were gone can't find the old ones anywhere I bought new ones but there just rubber coated and worried about those burning off and clogging the exhaust I'm a pipe welder and could make new ones out of stainless and I know they wouldn't burn or fall off. Any ideas you guys are great!

Ayuh,.... Unless the impeller fails, the shutters don't get that hot....

Metal shutters, without the rubber coatin' will rattle, 'n wear a hole in the y-pipe...

Volvo stopped putting the flaps in at some point in the mid-late 90's. They had a bulletin for technicians about how to remove them and gave the Volvo recommended procedure to plug up the holes where the pivot shafts rode.

The materials were chosen based on a variety of factors. I am sure one of them is so they would not outlast the y-pipe....
