First world problems man. Life is hard. But for real this is why I love the trailer $5.60 at the dock and $3.60 at the local Exxon.

It's all about income.
$5 a gallon is a smaller income percentage to some, than $1 a gallon would be to others.

Its at 4.80 a gallon at my marina and that's only because the bulk tank still has last years fuel in it. While its high I dont see it as a big thing for me because of a back problem and the hassle of hauling fuel, I will use whats there. But I save more than enough from not having to tow it 3 times a week. MY time plus the extra fuel cost to tow more than off sets the marina fuel costs. And I am all ready at 26 hours this year.

I filled up this week, ( Lake Lanier ) and our Marina was $5.00 it's 90 octane and ethanol free. My boat doesn't use much gas so I can live with it.

When we lived in Mich and cruised the great lakes our boat would burn between 14 & 20 gals per hour, depending on how fast I ran.

Personally, I'd rather be towing and filling up my boat with premium for $4 bucks a gallon and I get to enjoy multiple bodies of water. Glad I'm not stuck with those marina prices, or at one place every weekend.

53 gallon @ $4.509 last week. Looking at about 80 gallon next week... 90 octane ethanol free. The marina keeps track and will provide documentation to submit for the $0.17 state road tax refund in January.

Is the discount worth what ethanol does to your fuel system? My boat lives on a trailer but I buy fuel at a marina unless I can find a station that sells pure gasoline. That's not so easy to find any more.

No such thing here, even the marinas have ethanol fuel.
What I see going on here as fuel prices climb is that most people are downsizing their boats, many have gone back to small aluminum boats rather than dump a whole paycheck every week just to go fishing.
Its not hard to burn up $400 worth of gas in even my 150hp motor in a day on the water at $5 per gallon.
The boat is gone, the motor just sits on the stand now. I run a 15hp and a 14' boat. Took the 19' boat to the dump.
No more offshore fishing, I stay inside or in the river. Boating isn't fun when your worrying about whether or not you can afford to fuel up and get home. I see more and more big boats just abandoned or sitting in back yards, unsellable due to the cost of fuel.

Count yourselves lucky

Huh? Fuel has tripled in price in less than 10 years. Most people's incomes, if they have increased, definitely have not tripled.

Been there, done that and I'll take a Marina any day of the week. Lake Lanier is 38,000 acres, more than enough to last us a lifetime. You might save money on boat gas but I'll bet your car mileage isn't to good.

Like most things in life its trade off`s, I can be on my boat heading out in about the same time it takes to hook up the trailer, and if I want to go to another lake or river thats why I keep a trailer around.

(Sorry, dont mean to hijack the thread here Ollie - a small tangent if you will)

I didn't buy a boat to worry about gas consumption. The enjoyment my family and I get out of going to multiple bodies of water across multiple states is worth more to me than any amount of money. My time with my family is valuable, can't put a price on that. My wife and I work hard for a living, and enjoy the fruits of our labor.

We have the flip side - offroad toys, big here in SoCal. We goto everything from Glamis sand dunes, to Buttercup, Gordons Well, Ocotillo wells, etc. We have a "weekenders" spot @ Ocotillo wells where we have a 40' trailer and ALL the amenities, including a built in swimming pool. We spent several years here, every single weekend.. It is over 100,000+ acres of nothing but offroad park and fun. It got old, really old after many years. The same scenery, the same trails, the same mountains. Boring.

Thank god I can spend every weekend in a different place If I want, and not have to worry about "mileage".
I can throw my boat in the ocean one day, and be on an inland lake the next day. Anywhere I choose to drive to.
So glad I'm not stuck in one place all the time.

I'll complain right along side ya. Mn/WI gas prices at the pump for our tow vehicles is around $4.29, give or take, for regular unleaded. While the national average is around $3.60. The prices have jumped .75 + in the last month. Minnwiscfornia.......
