The engine is a 92 350 Magnum model. If you get the boat, you would need Merc service manual #15 to cover the engine & electrical.
It was installed in a 24' Grady White boat (No Hull ID #) in 92. Doesn't say if it had a new drive installed, but that wouldn't be hard to figure out. In 91 the Alpha drives changed to the Gen II model. So if your 84 boat has an original Alpha I drive, then it possibly had a new engine installed in 92. If it has a Gen II drive, the engine and drive and transom shield were all done, a complete repower.
So, by the present owners information, it was rebuilt in 01.

Thanks Don...how did you get that info? Pretty cool!

So Don......let me see if I understand you right.

The boat probably had a new engine installed in '92 and it was rebuilt in '01. This would mean the the same engine was rebuilt and reinstalled? I don't know what outdrive it has on it..didn't see the outdrive out of the water and it has a swim platform so can't see too good.

What about the name Dealer Marine?

Sounds like a pretty good deal......I'm going to make him an offer today.........will probably attack the fuel delivery system first.i.e the filters the go after the cap and rotor. I don't think the problem is internal.....as far as being over propped I don't think so.......we were doing ~25mph at 3200RPM's, think that speed sounds about right for that RPM.

What about the timing wioth this Thunderbolt Ignition? Anything to worry about hear? I remeber bondo giving good review about this ignition.

Wish I could get one of those boats here for that kind of cash.
Whatever the problem(s) in the engine turn out to be I'm sure you will get on top of it.
When all's said and done it's only a 350 SBC in there.
Good luck with your "bargain"

Pete

Thanks.......

How difficult is it to rebuild a 4bbl carb?
I think it's a Rochester.

Re: 5.7L Mercruiser test drive

I rebuilt my Q-jet last year, took me about 3 hours. let disassemled parts sit in tub of carb cleaner over night, only tricky part for me was keeping the metering rods lined up when reasembling----not too tough if you have rebuilt a few carbs---------Take your time,
