Took the boat out last night and it didnt have any power..We had a very large storm the week before..Dont know if water got into the fuel or somthing? Would that make it run very slow? WOT was only at 3000 rpms!! Was gonna pull the plugs and see if they are fouled.. Anyone have any more advise?

Motor is a 2000 johnson 50hp

Don't think the 2 are related, sounds off hand like a clogged high speed jet, do the compression and spark check and it those are okay clean the high speed jet, it is behind the drain plug at the bottom of the carbs.

Also be careful running this until you figure it out, if it is a fuel issue you are running one cylinder lean which is bad.

The boat was in my back yard with the motor tilted up..Appears water can get in threw the top vent when tilted up?
I didnt get a chance to do a compression test yet..Pulled the plugs to look at them and the one plug was very wet still..Will do the comp. test... This high speed jet? Do i take out the drain plug and it behind it? Thanks for the help guys

Ok i finally got a chance to take the boat out since i checked the compression and put new plugs in.Nothing has changed..It has no power when you give it gas..But seems to run great when in netrual..I dont get it..The one thing i did notice is the the main gas line going into the motor has a tie around it and you can move it easy..I was gonna take the tie off and put a clamp on it..Maybe air is getting sucked in there? I donno what more to do before I take it to get looked at..

If anyone has any mkore ideas let me know!!

No i didnt clean them yet.. I looked for them and can not seem to find the screw at the bottom of the carb on the bowl? I might have to take off the large plastic air cleaner looking thing to see if they are behind them..

The high speed jets are in the bowl of the carbs correct?

Re: 50 hp johnson no power last night!!

OK so i got a chance to do some more work on the motor..I was on a misson to find the high speed jets..As I was looking what was needed to get to the high speed jets i noticed a line broke in half that went to the bottom carb..It was a what appeared to be a vac line that goes into the top of the carb? Well i cut off the old part and put the line back on..Anyone have any ideas if this will fix my problem? I was soo excited to find that..I never got to finding the high speed jets..Hopefully i will get a chance to put it back it the water this week..But if anyone knows what effect that vac hose has please let me know!!It gets connected to the top of the carb..

Ok i found out where they are..Looks like they are behing the screw? Do they just come out or are they screwed in?

Also you think that line had anything to do with no having any power?

Ok i got another chance to take the boat on the water to see if the line i fixed was the problem..Well it wasnt!!! Did get a chance to mess around with it while in the water..I pulled the bottom spark plug cap while running and it ran the same way it has been, same power same everything..So i put the bottom cap back on and pulled the top cap..It shut off right away..Tried to start it with choke and it kicked over for a sec..Soo it appears the bottom carb is not getting enough or any gas..Would this high speed jet be what might be wrong with it?

Also both plugs had Great looking spark!!

Hopefully i will get some reponses..Thanks Guys

You need to check for spark. You pulled the bottom plug wire and it ran the same that indicates a bad coil going to that plug. Physically swap the coils and see if the problem follows that coil, if it does just replace it and you are back in business for about 25.00.

Fireman57 I had great spark on both plugs..The bottom cyl has great spark but seems to be not getting any gas..I dont think the coils are the problem if the spark is perfect..

Seems more like a problem with the bottom carb..

did you have about the same compression on both cyl.I had one a while ago that i swore was a carb issue and ended up being a head gasket.acted the exact same way yours is.make sure you have good compression on both cyl.

take your carbs off and the check the float in the bottome carb. sometimes the needles stick and won't let it drop to get fuel. that is bad because there is also no lube in that cylinder.
