I have a 1973 Mercury 500. Just got the boat and motor, which have been setting 10+ years. Took the boat out Friday and lake tested it and it ran good till I spun the prop. I pulled the prop and from running the numbers I have a prop on my 73 50hp from a 1973 65hp. I found a prop from a 1977 500. Same model number of prop 48-61820-14. Will this prop or any other year of prop with the same numbers work on my motor?

Thanks Emil

If you look up props for your motor in the props for sale here you should be able to tell what years are the same.

Those motors were so popular that you should find props are widely available from multiple manufacturers. If your prop is in good shape, it is cheapest to get it re hubbed, and do a through test, before choosing a new prop. You will want a spare anyway.

I did a quick lookup on iboats prop section.40 hp 50 hp and 65 hp and possibly others use the same prop.(s) The key may be the 13 spline count.
The 65 was listed from 72 - 76 the 50 74 - 76 yet yours appear to be the same as the 65.

Thanks guys. Steelspike I agree it looks like multiple years will work and long as the diameter doesn't get too big and it has 13 splines. Yes I would like to get this one repaired, however if I could find one on the cheep that will work so I have a spare.
