5000rpm starts to stall

At about 5000rmp ingine starts to stall.
Changed fuel line, bulb, tank, intank filter, rebuild fuel pump.
If I reach back and pump the bulb, the engine will come back to life.
The bulb doesnt seem to go soft, but the bulb doesnt ever get hard either.
Its done this since I bought it back in feb.
Im just tempted to put an elec. fuel pump on it.
Any reason why not?
Also, any suggestions on one?

What year motor? Electric pump not a good idea due safety reasons.

You need a minimum fuel pressure of 4 to 4.5 lbs to feed that engine above 5000 rpm. your fuel lines could be too small or the fuel pump rebuild was not done correctly. Solve the fuel delivery problem first. There are screen filters built in to the top cover of each fuel bowl. They can become restricted as well. There is a merc bulletin that suggests removing them. Opinions vary but I remove mine and run a good quality fuel filter between the tank and the fuel pump.

sounds like a plan..Ill check into that either today or tomarrow.

Removed the intank screen/filter, installed an inline filter and the thing runs like a scalded dog.
