50hp 96 CDM ignition onto 95 40hp

I am in the process of replacing my 50hp blown power head with a complete, working 40hp. The 40 was supposed to be a '96 but appears to be a '95. In order to use the ignition components from my 50hp to the 40hp do I simply need to swap the stator and trigger?

It appears so and I hope to confirm it is as simple as that, other than some mounting issues for the coils, etc. But I can work that out later.

The 95 is the old Merc.
It used some parts from the Force.
The 96 is all Mercury.
The flywheel MIGHT??? not work.
You'll need to take them off and see if the taper and seat is the same?

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying, if the 50 hp flywheel fits it would need swapped over too?

Yes the parts won't align.
Take the flywheels off and see if they swap?

Negative on the flywheel swap, major let down. The older 40hp shaft is bigger. My thought for a solution is it rebuild/replace the ignition components for the 40hp CDI system. I've been looking at part diagrams and am not sure what parts I might need to complete. From my research I'll need a switchbox and coils with corresponding brackets. What else would I need to complete it?

IF the old 50 crankshaft is good and has the same crankpin diameter as the 40, AND IF the splines are the same for the driveshaft, AND IF you want to do the work, the 50 crankshaft should mount into the 40 block. Then you could use the good electronic ignition from your 50. Lots of work but it would save you a couple of hundred in electronic parts.

If the 40 is complete?
Why not swap the motors?
That migh not work either.
Might need shifter/cables harness?
