50HP Force, but what year?

I recently bought a 1968 Starcraft and the guy threw this 50Hp Force motor in with the boat.

The model number is 507Y8D

According to a website I found, that model number only showed up in 1988. Is that true or did this model show up over a several year period? I have the name and phone number of the dealer the motor was bought from or serviced at so I'm going to try them tomorrow. Just wondering if any of you know for sure what year this motor could be based on the model number. Thanks!

I believe thats correct you. you have an 88. I believe thats what the 8 in the code stands for some how. good luck.
