The woodruff key is a small, half moon shaped piece of metal that fits into a slot on the shaft....and a slot on the flywheel. Theoretically, the flywheel can only go on the shaft in one position this way. Without that key in there, the flywheel will go on....but your ignition timing would be way, way off.

Do you have an ohm meter? If not, you'll need one. WalMart has them for around $10-$12. The trigger wires are in pairs, as are the stator wires. You want to find resistance on each pair. (Check the manual for the correct resistance.)

You should have 2 wires coming off the stator. If the diagram is correct, they are blue. In either case, one goes to each CD/Coil box. Disconnect them from the buss bar, and set your ohm meter to x1000 or x2000 (1K or 2K) If it's auto adjusting, just set it to read ohms. You're looking for resistance....any resistance at this point. If it reads nothing or infinity, you either have a short to ground or a wire is broken. Inspect the wires that were melted closely. They might be burned up and not able to conduct anything. If it's just the wires, you can usually repair that by soldering on new wires. Worth a try before throwing a new stator at it.

You also have 4 wires from the trigger......2 to each box. Same thing, check those for resistance. I'll look it up in my book and see what the values should be...but basically if you have no resistance, you have trouble.

ok so i have only came up with this the stator looks woarn down on one side where the magnet would rub it..... could that cause my problem with no spark?

Wiring Help Needed

Lorenzo. This is a very old thread. You'll be better off starting your own thread. Hijacking one's thread is really not the way to get help as it confuses the conversation, please. To get a better chance of resolving your issue, get a pic and post what you are referring about. It makes it easier for other members to understand the problem thus making it easier to give the correct resolution.
