hi I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a problem that i am having with this 50hp mercury motor. the motor starts on choke but will die out soon if throttle isnt given . i cant put motor in gear until motor has warmed up for a couple of minutes (warm or cold) or it will stall. you also can tell by the sound of the engine that top end speed is not achieved. I took out plugs and they look wet.is carburator work needed or could it be timing? thanks alot for the help

Easiest place to start is: Have you got good compression and spark on all 4 cylinders, if so replace the spark plugs. Then try it again. Most faults are quite simple in the end. If that doesn't fix it, then we'll have to delve a little deeper. Keep us posted.

Is your tank vent open and does the primer bulb remain full while running?

Greg

I think that I have to do some trouble shooting as achris60 stated I bought this motor used and was told that it was tuned up in the fall just before it was stored would anyone know the fuel mixture screw adjustments is it 1.5 turns out
