I have an older 55hp chysler that I cannot get to shut down. I have the wires color coorinated to the block but there is one blue wire coming from the ignition that will kill one coil when the key is turned to off. I've moved the wire to either coil spot on the block and can only manage to kill one cylinder??? If I jumper to the other post they will both fire at the same time so, what to do? Right now I have to choke to kill the motor and it is running so good it barley shuts down.

Hello troush and welcome to iboats. From your description it sounds like you have a Battery ignition with an alternator. The electrical diagram looks like both blue coil leads tie to the terminal strip where the blue wire comes from the wiring harness. Hope someone with this type of ignition can chime in.

Model #5505 *I think* have to look again but, yes battery start with alternator. You are right, two leads from the ignition go to two different terminals on the block but, only one blue wire coming from the ignition. That one blue wire will send which ever coil it is hooked to to ground. This is what the wiring block looks like without the ignition hooked up.

Re: 55 hp Cannot shut down???

From what I can see on the wiring diagram I have in my clymer book both coils should have a blue wire that should be tied together at the terminal strip also going to the blue wire that goes back to the ignition switch which is connected to the I on the ignition switch. The other wires on the coils one brown and the other white go to the different condensors on the breaker plate. The white wire on the one coil also goes to the terminal strip to the white wire on the harness and connects to one of the M on the ignition switch. I attempted trying to see how these wires interact on my motor however I have a magna power ignition and can not see how it works for a battery ignition. If someone here dont help you try the marine doctor HERE
