Re: 55hp chrysler electrical problems

Welcome to iboats. Not sure what you mean by second solenoid. There is a choke solenoid and the starting solenoid. Take the starting solenoid off the motor and clean the bolts that it mounts to. Clean the area where it touches the motor. This starter solinoid uses a body ground which could be your problem. Clean the negative and positive leads to the battery so they shine, Clean the lugs on the battery. Clean the positive lead to the starter. Chances are you have a loose or dirty connection which creates resistance and will create a voltage loss. That starter will need almost everything that battery can put out and any corrosion can limit the amount of voltage getting there.

Re: 55hp chrysler electrical problems

Hi Everybody!

I bought an 55 hp Chrysler form year 1974. Type is 554HG Serial: 3079. I'm from eastern Europe, I use the motorboat on the river Danube, but now there is still a russian (soviet union) made motor on it, but wanna change it to the Chrysler. I havent got ignition key and original chrysler Control Box Throttle Shift. Im gonna use it with a Yamaha control box. The price of the outboard was a joke, but have some problems with it.

1st: the waterpump (impeller) is broken, i need a new, but in Hungary i cant buy it :-(

2nd: I dont understand the electrical system, the engine doesnt product spark, and the cables are different from the electrical shematic i downloaded. Can anyone help me pls?
