Hi guys I've asked quite a few questions so far about this sorry if it gets annoying, I'm just trying to learn a lesson in frusteration is all!<br />(It's a 1969 55hp)So when I turn the key over the engine starts and will only stay running as long as the key is in the start position and the starter is going. As soon as I let go and the key goes to the run position it shuts off right away. I've redone the carbs, I'm getting spark and fuel. I'm getting power to my ignition switch but nothing coming out, what does that mean? I traced some wires a little bit. there is a red wire, a purple wire, and a white wire, going into the ignition. I'm getting power on the red and that''s it. The purple wire disapears into the block. where is it going to? And the white is connected to the solonoid. Keep in mind it was running about 4 weeks ago, and it was strong. It just died over night? Absolutely any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

ryan, you need to get a manual, I have a 1970 60 horse and they are wired and operate a little differently from modern motors. The wiring diagrams will be a big help and keep you from frying parts, as some things that you would think function with positive are actually negative. I know from experience the hard way. Also there are several safety switches that are prone to malfunction. These motors run the ignition off the battery which is also different.
