The starter on my motor will not spin, or engage, or anything. I was looking at it and was surprised to find that only one wire connected to it: a heavy guage positive wire bolted near the bottom of the case (as the starter sits vertically). Where is the ground? Does the starter just ground on its mounting bracket?

I also noticed that the whole starter assembly seems loose in its mount. And again, I was surprised to find no bolts or brackets holding it in place other than where it passes through the bracket right at the top, near the drive gear. Should the starter be loose like this? How does it detach from its mount? I thought perhaps it twisted out or something, but I could only turn it about a 1/4 inch in each direction. There also seems to be a small spacer plate between the starter housing and the bracket it mounts to. What's this?

Ok, I apologize for all the questions. I know I should just buy a manual, but I just graduated from college and the funds are... pretty nonexistent right now. I'm keeping a list of all those who have helped me. Free boat rides for all of you once I get this worked out!

thank you
adam
