59 johnson electrical

I need help guys.<br /> Got a 59' Johnson Seahorse 18HP. Model FD-13R<br /> I just took the coils off and noticed one of the Plug wires is funky.<br /> To replace this I need to remove the base the coils are mounted to. If you can Help I can get back to fishing.<br /> Plug wires in rough shape and very hard to get to without removing base they are attached to. Thanks Fellow Boaters

the base is easy to remove once the flywheel is off........(remove the flywheel)

There are four screws that hold the armature plate to the motor. They are set up in a rectangular pattern. If you've removed one of the coils, then you've already found one of the screws - the long one. Second is in same place on other coil. 3 & 4 are down low, near the points. Also, disconnect the throttle arm by removing the stainless steel clip that attaches it to the brass arm on the armature plate.<br />- Scott
