I got a brand new SS prop last week. When I went to put it on it wouldnt fit and when I brought it back to the prop place they looked at it and said the hub was not in all the way. They put a new hub in it for me.
There was a sticker on the prop when I picked it up that said to let it sit for 24 hours before putting it on and then when I put it on to shift from F to N to R and back a few times. I did all this.
Then, I took it out for about 4 hours and it ran fine.
Then today I took it out and about 2 hours later I'm cruising along at about 3500 RPM and then bam it just completely let go and the engine started to rev. Luckily I had my hand on the throttle so I put it in N quick.
I was about 2 NM from my dock and I could not get it to go over 1200 RPM without slipping.
I got back to the dock and took the prop off and on the back of the prop where the thrust washer goes it looks like the hub exploded. I'm gonna take a pic of it and post it tom morning. The entire prop also has a white haze on it. I couldn't get it off by wiping it with my finger even with water.
Is this something that is the prop shops fault? I was in very deep water when this happened and I examined the prop and there is not a mark or ding on it. Only the white crap, whatever it is.
So anyone know what this white is? Should I take this prop back to the prop shop and demand a re hub for free?
Thanks
