I've re built carb rebuilt fuel pump and am on the verge of getting this motor running....but carb doesn't seem to be getting fuel, yet On first start, How long should it take for the fuel to fill carb. and also if I pull the start rope should the fuel squirt out with a lot of pressure?? Pumping the fuel line bulb should prime the fuel system and fill the carb bowl. You do that before trying to start!

Once the system is primed pulling the engine over on the starter should produce a spurt of fuel if the hose is disconnected from the carb.

Re: 6 hp 1991 evinrude

I had trouble with starting and rebuilt carb and cleaned orifices. then i filled the fuel tank to 2/3 Started the motor with squirt of fuel mix and the motor started running real nice for about 5 minutes. I turned it off and it started immediately, and ran good for a while. Next day the motor would not start unless squirted with fuel. I rebuilt the fuel pump. now I still get no start unless I squirt fuel mix down the carb. The fuel pump pulses out gas when I pull the start rope. Does anybody have any ideas on what could be happening??Thanks for any help.

On my plastic fuel tank I open the breather valve several threads,I'm wondering if I should open it all the way. My 69 Johnson runs good with it opened a few threads. Could this be cause of my problem??

Yes the tank vent has to be open.
If you have to squirt gas into the carb to get it started you have a low speed circut restriction. The jet not adjusted properly, passage restriction. Is the little hose connected on both ends and not cracked?
Is the choke working properly, going fully closed?
