6 hp evinrude will not idle

I have a 91 6 hp evinrude which i can't get to stay running. Rebuilt carb. squirted gas mix initially go get engine finally started. finally after several squirt starts the engine will start with choke. Will run with coaxing with choke, and after a whill will run at higher RPM but when I try to slow engine down it will stall . I also tried to cover throat opening with my hand while engine was running and I felt a considerable suction, and the engine would choke and stall. I guess I should take the carb out and clean the orifaces and Is there any particular part that I should pay particular attention to when rebuilding ????? Thanks for any useful help you can give me on this !!!!

If you can keep it idling with a bit of choking (Its not a primer pump on that model ??) then you should be suspecting a dirty idle circuit in the carb, provided the slow running mixture screw is set correctly.
