I have the a/n motor, the model # is 64601, serial # is 1242.
Tillotson carburetor, model MTS1B (the stamping was doubled and hard to read, but I think it's the right model #).
Can anyone tell me the year of manufacture?
I'm using a 50:1 mix, smokes just a little bit, but runs. Is this mix o.k?
The front of the motor has an 'idle lean-rich' knob on left of the pull cord, when you face the motor from the front side.
The carb has a brass screw fitted to a brass nut that enters the body on the lower left, is this for fast idle adjustment?
The carb also has, what appears to be a threaded brass 'plug' on the top right side, what would this be for, is it for adjustment?
The 'idle lean-rich' knob is connected by a linkage to a shaft on the left side of the carb (facing it).
When we used the motor today, it ran for the first time! It seemed o.k. mid-throttle, however, the idle was quite rough (didn't know if it was going to quit sort of thing) also,
at full throttle the motor made very loud vibration noises, however, once I backed the throttle off just a bit, the motor smoothed out and purred like a kitten.
The plugs that are in it right now are NGK B5HS, I haven't pulled them to see how they look, but am wondering if they are the right plugs for the motor to begin with.
Finally, what is the proper method to adjust the carb and which screw(s) am I to do it with. Shouldn't the lean rich mix knob be in the middle of its adjustment, the only way the motor ran reasonably smooth was with it set at fully lean regardless of idle or other throttle settings.
I haven't been able to locate a schematic or operator instructions and not knowing the year or manufacturer hinders me ever more.
Thanking you in advance for any assistance
Osito
