Re: 60 horse merc no electric start

first find out if the starter etc is good. try jump starting at the selinoid.why im saying this is that if it starts that will discount the motor end of the deal. i had a older merc elct start and i found it was the battery cables from the control box were rotten on the inside. i kept cutting back till i found good cable then spliced on new stuff.

Start at the battery. Take a pliers to those useless cause-more-problems-than-they're-worth wingnuts. Make sure the motor is in Neutral and the Dead-man tether is in place.

Re: 60 horse merc no electric start

Have someone hold the key in the START position while you check voltage at the small terminal on the starter solenoid that comes from the ignitioin switch. If there is 12V there, the ignition switch is ok. If not, there is either a wiring problem or the switch is bad. Disconnect the large harness connector on the engine and check the terminals. Clean them and then reconnect. A bad connection at the plug prevents voltage from getting to the solenoid from the switch.

ok i check the voltage with a multimeter and im not getting any power to the small terminal on the soleniod from the ingnition switch and the plugs pretty clean so what should i do next is it possibly to replace the ingnition switch? because its its in the throttle and when i took it out to look at it it looked sealed should i just cut the wires?
