What is the "proper" mixture of oil & gas & what octane should I use for my 1970 model # 60073 Evinrude 3 cylinder 60 HP? for my 20 HP, I use one pint per 6 gallons but with this engine, I do not want to risk anything... Thanks
Scotty

Same stuff for both engines. That's a 50:1 oil mix,and regular octane.Leaded would be better, but is not available.I know of no one using additives.

DHP

Thanks DHP. Ive heard of leaving split shot weights in the gas can to get the lead into the motor, used to do that for older tractors I had seemed to work good. What do you think about that in an outboard???
Just a thought !!!

WRONG!!

Lead offers no benefit to a 2 stroke engine. It can contribute to deposits.

In the days that tetraethyl lead was added to gasoline to raise octane and lubricate valves in 4 stroke engines most outboard makers recommended "white" (unleaded) gas.

NEVER use leaded gas in a 2 stroke engine when unleaded is available.

Split shots in an out board tank sounds interesting, but probably not needed.Somewhere around 198 ? OMC had a bulletin about lead and two stroke outboards.Kits were available for several instances.OMC was concerned.
Never did install any of those kits, our motors just ran fine.(didn't blow up)

Turned out the real problem was with four stroke engines, and valve seat recession, lots of hoopla there.

DHP
