have reassembled entire lower unit and am trying to start engine in test tank. Not getting gas to cylinders. gas is getting to carb - fuel pump is working. have cleaned both needle valves but suspect the jets may be gummed up (motor had been standing with old gas for quite some time). other than pulling the jets and cleaning them - any other suggestions?

Max

sounds on track. You might squirt a little fuel mix into the throat of the carb first just to see if the engine will pop for you.

Howdy, Maxair.

Oldboat1 makes good sense. If you clean the carb be sure to get the very small openings into the carb throat where the thrrottle plate fits.

Good luck. :)

Maxair: Remove the carb, take it apart, clean/rebuild. Be sure to remove the welsh plug on top of the carb and clean out the holes under there.

Blacksheepradio: Tighten the packing nuts until the needles stay in place.

Maxair probably has his fixed by now. It's been 8 years. blacksheep has re-opened an ancient thread.
