Ok guys here we go, I am about to use motor as anchor! 2003 Mercury 90-65 Jet. Starts fine, idles fine, drop the gate to come up on the throttle and it will not work. It's like it wants to run but wont. This has happened on and off numerous times. For example, changed plugs in the river the other day (have alot of plugs handy) boat came up on plane and ran great. stopped to fish, tried to run and same thing happened. Have changed plugs, new fuel, stators were checked under warranty, my fun meter is pegged, can anyone offer something useful?

if your motor is a jet and you have a small rock in the grate or weeds on the impellar power is dramatically reduced

When you say "wants to run, but won't", what is it doing - what does it sound likez? Bogging? Racing (like it's ventilating)? What RPMs is it turning?

Did it run for a while, then start this? If so, when it was running well, what's the difference now in terms of the way it sounds, acts and RPM?

What did the plugs look like when you changed them? Did changing plugs help?

Have you checked the condition of the jet impeller and the clearance? Have you looked at the grate and into the impeller to see if there's any foreign matter (rock, stick, line, seaweed, etc) in the grate or impeller? Have you checked the functioning of the gate (aka boot) to make sure it's dropping full clear when you put it in gear?

I'm not a mechanic or expert, but these are the things that come to my mind having trouble-shooted and received advice in the past. I run a V6 jet outboard and do know a little bit about the jet unit itself.
