If you can show me a new diesel truck that gets 20+ MPG i'll buy it.

1996 Ford F350, International 7.3L diesel, 1 ton, 4X4, Std, 3:73 Ratio, tows an 8,000 lb boat like nothings on the hitch - 19 MPG (but not while towing the boat!!)

There is not a NEW Diesel out there that gets 20 mpg, even in 2wd. I need a 4x4. The Dodges that are getting 20 mpg are the older 3rd generation 24 valve cummins turbo made from 03 to 05 1/2. If I can find the right one it will be on the very short list. The new Cummins has better mileage than the Duramax but not by much, and not good enough to sway me that way. I agree the older diesels are more efficient but I'm not looking to buy a old truck. Thank's for the input guy's,It's forcing me to dig deeper than I have and I am learning more all the time.

I heard a few years ago the diesels that are offered in Europe wont pass emissions here because at Idle they don't run clean enough. Once they turn up the revs they are clean enough. As we all know every light you pull up to is red so the Idle thing is a real problem.:)

I think the EPA has stopped the better fuel efficient diesels from entering US due to failure to meet emissions standards.

My first car I got was a Renault, Dalphine. That's (RE-NALT) no (RAY-NO). It got 45 mpg. I was a 1963 car.

It could never be sold now in US because of smog control. All those pumps and computers make it so we have cleaner air, but they take energy to run and increase weight, plus the engine is tuned for fuel efficiency not gas mileage.

I once have a 1993 Ford Ranger. It got 25 mpg with its V-6. I took it in to a Ford Dealership for a tune-up. What a mistake. I got it back it got only 19 MPG. I called up the dealership, they said that had to correct the engine because it was not tuned to spec. Makes you wonder.

Best truck I've ever owned, and owned alot of them. 123K miles and never skipped a beat - gonna leave it to my grand kids.
BTW, what swayed me to buy it originally (new) was the $2,000.00 "clean fuel" federal tax credit!! Beat that!!
