'67 merc, 9.8hp lower unit question

I took the lower unit off a 1967 110 Merc, 9.8hp to replace the gear bearings. I notice there weren't any gaskets. Are there suppose to be any gaskets or seals to replace while I have this separated?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Gary

There are seals in the lower unit itself, but there are no seals or gaskets between the lower unit and the exhaust housing...<br /><br />If you are going to take the unit apart to replacing bearings, then replace all seals while you're in there. Pay special attention to the sealing surfaces on the shafts as the materials used in that era were prone to pitting due to corrosion...<br /><br />- Scott
