Get to bed guy supose to get real nice weather for several days and in the 60s. We will see. Pugetsound
Yea I was a bit tired the other night and still wound up waking up at 01:30 and could not go back to sleep. Then I was up at 03:00 this morning, this just bites. I am hoping that the weather prediction is right for once Puget cause I am getting really sick of this uncool April weather in May.

Hey Kelly, for making your aluminum washers, just use an 1"or 1&1/4" hole saw. It makes them real nice.
Glen
That is an awesome idea Glen, thanks. I am going to go down tomorrow and get me a hole saw and make some washers:D.

Ok, can you say SCORE!!!!!!!

100_0436.jpg

This tank was advertised for $100 and went and checked it out. Was going to give the guy asking price, we got to talking and he had a bunch of gas out of it that he had to get rid of and said it was going to cost him to do so. I told him that if he dropped the price I would take the gas as it does not cost me to get rid of it:D. I got it for $50 and there is not corrosion hardly on it and the inside is very clean. It is a 24 gallon belly tank, something that I really wanted.

The sending unit is in the vice and I checked it out and it works great. No gunk built up on it either, moves very smooth and free:cool:

What you doing Puget, you trying to rain on my parade now? Na just ribbing ya bud.

I was concerned about that as well, that is another reason the sending unit came out. That is where the baffle is welded in the tank, there is no issue with the tank that I can detect. After buying that one last week and then finding it was trash, I looked this one over with a fine tooth comb.

GREAT some times its easy to overlook what you do not want to find. Hope it will do the job for you. Are you going to launch that this spring. I know you have a smaller boat but Whats your schedule. I found a VERY nice 17 ft trailer to fit my 16 SS and bought it .I changed the winch , the .strap, the receiver and all new lights. With material I already had. Repainted the trailer and it is as good as new and looks nice. I will post a photo or two. It was on craigs list just a few miles from the house and the guy had a tree fall on his boat which destroyed it. Got the trailer for $ 50 dollars. I Decided to keep my 16 SS as i Had a couple of interested buyers in it and YES 3 scammers. They all use broken English and want a agent to pick it up. Dont ever tell anyone like that where you live as they usually want your Pay Pal Id which they dont need to purchase. The two interested people I think look at this site and say I can get that for way less than $3800. NOT HERE- NOT NOW . we know what we got . Stay dry my friend and summer will get here. Kelly, it might be a little late to chime in on the wire mounts but this is the product I used on 2 of my duck boats. I used it about 10 yrs ago and again 3 years ago on my starjet. The boats are used in extreme cold late season duck/goose and warm weather fishing. If you've never fished in a dark painted duck boat soaking up the sun all day I can tell you it's like a sauna! Never had one of these tie mounts drop off in either case. Priced reasonably and can be purchased in lots of 30 or more.

Hi Kelly, The idea of using a holesaw is a great one for normal custom washers but for your rivets? The holesaw will have a drill that is ? inch. You want a 3/16 inch for your rivets. It might not matter but if it were me I would try something different.

Way cool on the trailer find bud, to bad for the neighbor and getting boat destroyed. There is no way that I am going to be able to splash this spring, hoping by summers end I will be able to. Way to much to do and have not been doing a lot on it with the wet weather we have been having since the boat is outside and under a tarp. And I would like to see someone find a boat like yours for cheaper around here, there is not a freaking chance of that. Can't wait for summer and warmer days, take care and stay dry yourself bud.

Hey there Bighoss thanks for dropping by bud. No you are not to late for that info as I am still in the buying and planing stage of things. I do like the idea of those fasteners though, and they seem to be of good quality from what I have seen so far.

Hey there GLG, thanks for thinking of me bud. Here is what I am planning on doing with the washer idea. I have some fairly thin aluminum that I am going to use for the washers. I have a 1-1/8 hole saw that I am going to chuck into my 1/2" drill and not use a pilot bit if I can do it. Then I will put it on the boat where I want it and when the JB is dry I will drill a hole through the washers from the inside of the boat. But if worse comes to worse, I did order a few 1/4" rivets just in case I screwed up some holes when I was drilling out old rivets. The hole saw will chuck up in the 1/2" drill without a problem, already checked it out:D.

Re: Well I did it now!

Re: Well I did it now!

Those tie wrap anchors look cool. Why not take the 2 sided foam stickyness off the ones we dont like and 5200 them on?

I could be mistaken but I think GLG is talking about all the long ends of screws hanging under the gunwals that are holting hand rails, cleats etc. That would be a good use of those and I have a hand full of those too.

To make washers with no holes here is a simple idea that works great.

1) drill a hole with your hole saw (with pilot drill) through a small board.
2) remove the pilot drill from the hole saw.
3) clamp your washer material in between your board with a hole and a scrap piece of wood
4) drill away! The hole in the board is now the guide for the hole saw.

You can drill multiple holes in the board and do more than one in one setup.

That is what I was thinking that GLG was talking about as well. Will have to see how many screws are left when I am done and how long they are going to be as well. I am toying with the idea of pulling my entire rub rail for when I paint the tub, and it looks like a lot of those screws may end up being a whole lot shorter than they are now:eek:.

Thanks for the idea of the boards there Mike, that is a really good idea. Cause I did try with out a pilot bit and needless to say it did not turn out so well:facepalm:.

Yes it is good to be part of the starmada GLG, there are many here like you guys that have very good ideas that I do not think of and also help others. It is so nice to have the help of others, especially since I have no idea of what I am doing.

Re: Well I did it now!

Re: Well I did it now!

Well was working on the boat today, trying to get that nasty glue off the inside of the gunwales where the vinyl was glued to it. Tried sanding with orbital sander and that did not work for beans. The old wire wheel on the die grinder works but is way slow, tried scrapping with a sharp putty knife(yea right). Had some acetone and that kind of worked but was rather slow as well. Went to ACE and got some MEK, now that stuff works pretty good. Takes some rubbing but it is faster than anything else I have tried so far. It is going to hours to get that dang stuff off and some of it is very thick. Like it was sprayed on and the sprayer was clogging up and they just kept going.

The rest of my plywood is supposed to be here tomorrow and still waiting to hear from ClarkCraft on when my epoxy will be shipped. Yea Ez I decided to go the easy route and use something that I am not going to screw up really easy like you said:D. So yea, it should be Kelly proof almost.

Re: Well I did it now!

Was it EZ that sprayed a bed liner type of coating in those side storage areas? I thought that was slick! Just wondering if we can spray it over all that glue crap and have it stick and look decent. Sounds like this thought might be a bit late for you Kelly..Sorry man but I'm sure its going to look great.

Re: Well I did it now!

Re: Well I did it now!

I re-vinyled all those areas on my SS mainly so I wouldn't have to deal with removing all that old adhesive. On my Jupiter I came up with the idea of the spray bedliner for the side storage areas after I used it in my splashwell. I think it would cover over the adhesive fine as long as you knocked most of the chunkiness down with a wire wheel first.

Kelly, I'm not getting the whole removal of the rub rail thing. The level of dissassembly some of you guys have gone too baffles me. Keep it simple! Tape works fine IMHO.

Re: Well I did it now!

Re: Well I did it now!

I thought about just trying to put something over that stupid glue, but the stupid stuff is lifting off in so many places and was worried that it would lift after I put something over it. EZ, the reason I am thinking of removing the rub rail is that is the only way I think I can get the nose piece off. The rub rail insert if beat to death and looks like crap and it attached up under that bow cap and I cannot get the bow cap off. Was looking at it and it seems that the cap needs to come off to get the rub rail insert out, I tried to get the cap off but was afraid that I was going to break it as it was not coming off. It looks like it will come right off if I can get the rest of the rub rail bolts out. Just what I was seeing when looking at it really close. If I could get the bow piece off without breaking it then I would not worry about the rub rail, if you have an idea I am all ears buddy.

Re: Well I did it now!

Yup, that is pretty much the case ^^^^

The insert is riveted in place under the bow cap, and, if you want the inserts out the cap has to go first. I suppose you could just rip/tear/pull that insert out but I think that would be nearly impossible if it's still riveted in there.

Mine came off after drilling out several rivets and prying away with a screwdriver. It wasn't easy and I managed to take a very small chip out of the side (fixable) but I can see how they would crack with a lil too much pressure.

The trick is to pry it up enough to get it up and over the rubrail, but, not enough to crack it! Tricky, tricky, delicate work!!

Rock on dude!:)

Re: Well I did it now!

Yea I got the rivets out of the cap Jason, but for the life of me I cannot get that stupid cap off. I tried prying and was afraid that I was going to break the stupid thing. Will keep after it till it comes off and hopefully in one piece.

I don't have much progress to report from the weekend. Just been trying to get the glue off the inside, since I started it I am going to finish taking it off. It is not hard doing, just time consuming. Get a rag wet with MEK and then it is wax on, wax off for a long time. I have almost one side done though, will be glad to be done with that part of it.

Yes I am slower than can be, but even slowness is some progress. I work for a little while and then start thinking about things that I need to do to the boat, that slows me down even more. Get to thinking about to many things at once and then don't get much done at all. That and the weather turned crappy once again and that does not help things either.
