Hi guys,
I have had this motor for 10 years now and i absolutely love it,but a few years back i was taking in a little water in the lower unit then it progressivly got worse to where i didnt like it,so start really checking out this thing, well i find that i can grab the prop hub and move it up and down 1/16 to1/8th of an inch,is this normal?
then i take prop off and such and find that the washer between the thrust hub and carrier seals is not in there and there are none available anywhereanyone know the dimensions on these so i can make one maybe.
brass or steel .
also bought a 1970 propshaft to replace mine as i suspected it was bent and when i get i see it isnt even close to mine, the 70 is a tapered shoulder and mine is squared, could i still retrofit this one somehow,as the 69 and up models dont have that washer in the parts diagrams and a different thrust hub everything else looks the same.
just a note this motor was worked on at a marine mechanic school just before i got it, i think they never put that washer back in, as a result the prop side seal in the carrier popped out and wedged on the thrust hub and i could almost remove the cover nut with my fingers.
sorry so long but i want to do this thing right and have her last another 40 years.
