I put new wires, connectors and boots, plenty long enough to still have some slack at wot. but yeah short wires can do that. Ive replaced and repaired everything top to bottom short of rings and bearings on this outboard probably should of just done that for the hell of it, but its got 120 on both cylinders and when i had the head off the bores were in great shape and no noise from the bearings when running so i didn't fool with it.

Well had her out at 4am this morning to do some catfishing, she runs like its 1969. I'm guessing that intermittent burst of speed i had in the beginning was some junk clogging the jet and leaning it out. But i am glad i went through everything else and fixed all the smaller problems as i should get many many years out of this motor now, may even outlast me.

i have the same engine 69 sporty. dad bought it for us kids brand new. i'm right in the middle of lower unit reseal. impelloer and housing, head gasket, condensers and, points. imho they just might be the best in class ever made.

yeah there built like tanks and simple to work on really the only way to murder it is to run it with a bad water pump or not mix the gas correctly. I may do the pee hole modification so i can know if i have an issue before the motor lets me know.
