Hello,

I'd like to remove and replace the bushing and oring for the shifter rod in the lower unit of my 1974 Johnson 6hp. I have a bad water leak into the gear case and I think the oring for the shifter rod is the problem. Do I need to make a special puller for this bushing or can i bump it out with the right sized rod from the back side?

Thanks in advance

If you are going to replace the bushing you can tap it with a 5/16-18NC tap and use a bolt, a couple of nuts and a plate with a hole in it as a puller to pull it out.
