Re: 7.5 Evinrude conversion

It needs to be a 3-line pump that will work off pulse vaccum. A mikuni carb is really good but I've done it before with a '55 7.5 using a briggs and stratton pulse vaccuum pump for a lawnmower from the local lawn mower shop and it worked well (still working well, too). Are you going to use the "plugging the check valve in the intake" method and use vaccuum off the intake or what?

That isn't what you "have" to do. Interestingly, I designed a 7.5hp pump conversion kit that uses a real OMC type pump mounted on the bypass cover where it is supposed to be, and offered it on e-bay for a starting bid of $50, which was less than my cost. This included a NEW pump. It ran for seven days and I didn't get a single bid. My conclusion: You guys don't really want to convert them as bad as you think you do.

Re: 7.5 Evinrude conversion

After doing several conversions I have found that using a stock omc fuel pump works great, part #0382875. Here's a link to a diagram of a 6hp omc.

There are a lot of web sites out there that show how to do it, like duckworksmagazine (http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/05/columns/max/5/index.cfm). You can find this pump either on ebay, or post an ad on the aomci.org website, or buy from your local marina/outboard motor grave yard. I just did an omc 5.5 and it was a breeze, the hardest part was making a fitting to connect the nipple on the manifold to the pulse hole. I also add an in line fuel filter and by pass the old glass bowl. Keep your parts after you are done, just in case you or someone else wants to convert it back.

Lastly, be sure to keep your oil mixture at 24:1.

good luck
