7.5 outboard pee problems

I have an 7.5 outboard circa early 1970's. I noticed that the water cooling was not functioning when the motor was in idle. The stream worked most of the time when the motor was engaged. After searching the forum, it appears like I need to replace the impeller. I would appreciate any insight on the problem.

I think the problem was caused by the propeller being operated through the sand last time I was at the beach. I always flush the motor after getting it out of the salt. I know sand was pumped up through the system because the pee hole was full of sand. I flushed it out and cleaned out all the sand.

What is the correct terminology when talking about the pee stream and and pee hole. I feel kinda silly describing it that way. Thanks

Re: 7.5 outboard pee problems

The proper terminology for the pee stream is "tattle tale". If you haven't replaced the impeller in the last two years it would be a good idea to go ahead and do it.
