Hi..New to the site..of course complete with stupid question. 1991, Force 70 (708F91B) and I am attempting to change the water pump impeller. I have unloosened the jam nut on the shift linkage and backed it all the way up, and have run the adjustment nut (the long one) all the way up. They will not seperate. I have the shifter in forward, and I have tried to remove it with the lower unit unbolted and bolted up..Her Worship has placed my maint. DVD someplace for safe keeping, and I was under the misconception this would be straight forward...NOT..Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am unable to locate any threads regarding this particular motor and this issue.

Re: 70 Horse Force lower unit removal problem

Welcome to iboats.

Did you....

Remove the trim tab above the prop?

Remove the bolt up inside the trim tab pocket?

Remove the 4 bolts at the juncture of the L/U and midsection?

Drop L/U as far as possible then continue to disconnect the shift coupler.

Questions ???

Been there, and feel your pain. Ok, so you may have to repeat the loosening step a few times before it finally gives. Roscoe is right too, let the lower hang as as far as possible while you do this. The long and short lock nut need to run in a seperate direction, the long as far away from the upper as possible and vise versa. It is a serious PITA, so take your time and be patient.
