703 control question

I am mounting a 2000 90 hp yamaha with a jet unit on my boat and am having a problem with not getting enough throttle cable throw out of my 703 control. I have the shift cable connected to the reversing bucket and that works fine. When I put the lever in reverse I get more throttle cable motion than in forward( it completely closes then opens the carbs). Where as in forward, if I set it to completely close the butterfly(s), it will not open them wide @ WOT, conversely if I set them to be open wide @WOT it will not close the butterflies completely. Couple questions, how do I tell if it is a push or pull to open throttle if the sticker on bottom is gone?, it seems push to open for 2 reasons, there is an adjustable limit screw for the reverse on the control cam and also the jet bucket operates properly. Another question, do they make different carb throttle cams? this would work if it was a more aggressive ramp, to make up for my lack of movement in the cable. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks

hey Cdrandy you should be able to tell exactly how you throttle works buy getting somone to function it forward and reverse and look closely. I think it is not routed correct or your missing somthing. You should not need a diffrent throttle cam. are youmissing the clip that locks the cables to the powerhead?

Re: 703 control question

I think I was was not getting the high idle pin into the slot, anyways after screwing with it a few times, all of a sudden it was getting full travel. Had to take it apart again to get all wiring stuffed inside, put it together and apparently pin was not in again. Took apart again and pin went in, works fine now, yeah!.
