Hi all, I just purchased a 91 Bayliner Capri with the 70hp Force engine on it. It has been sitting for a few years, so I was wondering what all goes into a tune up on boats? I do them on cars and motorcycles all the time but boats and anything marine is like reading Chinese to me. It has a single carburetor, and I cleaned that out. It needs some spark plugs and wires, but other than that what all else should I look at/into? It needs a steering cable and it wouldn't hurt to have the throttle cable replaced as well. Are these engines oil injected or will I need to premix?

premix. clean out the fuel filter next to the pump take the pump apart and check the diaphragm also replace the water pump impeller on the lower unit
Might wanna do a compression test on it first

It has great compression across the board, and I'll check on the fuel filter and pump diaphram. Thanks for the help!

You really do not have a lot to do. These engines use a 50-1 premix. So, clean out the fuel tank and use fresh fuel. As mentioned above, change the water pump impeller and fuel pump diaphragm. If there is an in-line fuel filter, either check it for free flow or replace it. Inspect the lower unit oil for water and contaminants and change it. Clean or replace the spark plugs and that's about it for the engine.

If you need to replace the steering cable, you might as well buy a complete new helm package. They are not much more expensive than the cable alone. Throttle cable is standard Teleflex. Both these should be available here at the iboats store or any good marine store.
