70hp yamaha 2-stroke compression test

Is it mandatory to ground the plug wires when doing a compression test? Or can I just engage the kill switch? (remove the little red clip under the key start)

That would be the easiest way if you are not looking to test the spark.
The main thing is not to let the voltage get too high and jump somewhere it is not suppose to and cause a fire or hurt the insulation on the coils or other parts

well, things don't look good. Compression cylinder #3: 115, #2 110, #1 0! Yes, ZERO.

Not a happy camper. I don't know whether it will be worth going any further with this engine. I'm already in over my head.
