Hi All,
I have recently purchased a boat with a 70-73's 50hp mariner. I have used it twice now and it starts everytime has never let me down and produces a good stream of water. I put it in a bin filled with water to run fresh water after use, i have recently noticed the water becoming very oily and coating the bin with quite thick oil... Is this normal... When priming the fuel it pumps right out of the carbs air flaps... again is this normal...

If anyone can advise or help i would be most gratefull.

Regards

Paul

Re: 70's 50p mariner help

Hello, Paul.

Welcome to iboats. :)

It is normal for an outboard to leave an oil slick when running. Sometimes it accumulates in a test tank and looks like a problem.

You have an additional problem with your carbs or your priming technique. Fuel shouldn't flow from the carbs. You may be pumping too hard and overwhelming the float valves, but you may also have fouled or failed inlet needle valve seats or misadjusted float levels.

As I write this I have the feeling I have answered it earlier. If you have double posted, please desist. One post, in the correct Forum, will get you all the help there is.

Good luck. :)
