So got a supposed 74 6 hp that was in pretty bad shape when I got it... the t stat was corroded and stuck open and the holes that the t stat controlled were plugged so I pulled the head and cleaned the jackets up good but now there's no water making it to the jacket around cylinders... there's a good mist out the hole in back so assume its pumping water... the tube has come out with the lower the last time I had it off so possibly not getting it lined up right... another question on the bottom crank seal that the o ring fits in should I replaced it if the motor overheated with as bad as it was when I got it??? That's the only part I didn't change out and the bottom seal is still leaking oil...

The tube has to be put into the grommet first.------Look halfway up the exhaust housing to find the opening.----You can not install the lower unit properly with the tube already in the pump.

??? Not minimizing the importance of the lower seal, but how in the world did you determine it is leaking?

There was grayish foam around the pin and you can see a bit of oil looking up the leg at the hole on the bottom brass ring

If you have any doubts about the seal, check it out. But I'm pretty sure the crankcase drains dump oil in that area.
