Literal Translation...

50ESL72 = 50Hp + Electric Start + Longshaft + 1972

I'm where you are except mine's been sitting much longer than 2 years. Here's my list.

- Drained and refill the lower unit with lube

- Rebuild the water pump.

- Remove the prop, checked for tangled fishing line, and grease splines.

- Squirt TCW-3 oil into the spark plug hole and manually rotated flywheel.

- Remove, clean, and fit the carburetor with a carb kit.

- Replace spark plugs.

- Remove and clean any fuel filters/screens.

- Grease any fittings on the steering.

- Drain any fuel in tank. Check for rust/debris. Refill with fresh oil/fuel mix.

- Make sure battery is "hot" and connections are clean.

I'm sure there are other things that I will notice and tend to along the way. A manual will guide you through most of this.

appreicate all the advice. i have been around boats all of my life. safety always comes first and i completed the online safety course before i picked the boat up. BoatBuoy i have drained the lower unit and refilled. didnt see any signs of water in the oil so i must be on the right track. in the process now of replacing the water pump. will keep you updated on anything i come across in the process. hope to have er done by spring. the guy who had the boat and motor before me converted the motor to cable driven. its actually pretty neat set-up(kinda like an air boat stearing). have you ever seen any like this before?

Don't forget to check for cracks in all hoses.

only use type "c" lower unit lube. you have a hydro-electric gear box down there, and it needs a certain type of fluid. using standard fluid can ruin it very quickly
