We recently had the impeller replaced on our motor because it wasn't spitting water like it should be. Now we got the lower unit back and put it back on the engine and it spits water sometimes. It spits water better when the motor is lower in the water, and also sometimes it doesn't spit much at all. Also we have noticed that water is coming up the hole where the wires for the selectric shift are. Anyone know what would cause this? It also pushed water up the wires before the impeller was replaced.

I tried searching as much as I could.

You don't have the wires pulled up high enough. The circular ridges around the wires are supposed to be in the hole to seal it.

That answers the water through the hole question. I could only guess at the water pump one.

I'm not sure I know which ridges that is. When I removed the wires it seemed like there wasn't anything on the wires to seal the hole leading me to believe it was apart before.

Edit: I believe I have found what you are talking about. They should be pulled all the way up but I will double check them. It doesn't spit a lot of water up through the wires but enough for it to leak just above the exhaust outlets.

Just removed lower unit and put back on checking impeller and wires for any damage, the wires seemed to come up more this time and I suppose it helps when you have a helper as well. We also checked the thermostat and tested it to make sure that was working. It would not show any water coming out with a flusher on but I heard sometimes they don't with those. Were gonna try it in the lake next for a quick run and hope for the best.
