On my motor there are 2 thin purple wires that are not hooked up to anything. they have ends on them for a screw or bolt to go through them. What are they for, & where should they be hooked up? The motor has been working without them being hooked up. but I'm sure they must have a function of some kind..

Does one of them have a yellow stripe? If so, they are probably from the choke's thermal switch which more than likely has been re-wired according to the service bulletin.

If one is purple/yellow and the other is solid purple and they lead to temp sensor on the upper, port side of the cylinder head, they are for the thermal choke function that F R referred to. The end fittings should be taped over and the wires should be secured. You can use either electrical tape or some small wire ties to do that.

The service bulletin, below, details the modification and the reason for doing it. Pay particular attention to the information about jumping the #7 & #8 terminals on your motor. If you don't do this, you will only get half actuation, when you use the electric choke switch at the remote control.

The photos are of the mod done on my motor.
