Hello everyone,.. i just registered.<br /><br />The setup... I just picked up a 65hp Jnsn Hydro elctic drive. It came off an old house boat and had been in a barn for the past 10 yrs. I got it with the elctric lift wire clipped after the inline connectors, and from the yellow plug about six feet of wire were also clipped. I am getting a control box from ebay with complete wiring to replace. the question... There is no solinoid on the powerhead, a bayman friend says there should be a junction box to install in my stern with two solinoids in it to direct the electric drive. Is that right and if so do I have to splice it into my wiring? or should it have plugs for the plugs on the wires? or is there room on my powerhead for two solinoids?<br />I haven't done a compression on it yet but on initial cranking it somked alot so I am thinking it was at least winterized at last use and it wanted to jump right into action. <br /><br />That's an older system he's referring to. Shift solenoids are in the gearcase. Your starter solenoid is mounted to the block and there is no junction box to mount to the transom. What you need should come with the control. Make certain the plugs on the main wiring harness match. There are Black, Yellow, and Red. They have to match. Make sure you get a control for HydroElectric and not Selectric. They are different. Johnson and Evinrude each had their unique control versions. Johnson used a Throttle/Shift lever and Evinrude had pushbuttons. You can use either control...as long as the plug color matches.
