'73 115 hp evinrude

I got 115 evinrude from my brother who told me the motor sank in salt water. We got the motor running and it ran great at low and idle speeds but when trying to plane it would sputter a lot...it would take off and then slow down. We think it might be the reeds but how would i know if they are bad?

If the reeds were bad it wouldn't idle. You have ignition trouble.

Sank in salt water...that is scarey. How long and how long before you got it running?

either ignition, or carb trouble, high speed jets clogged, or linc n sinc problem.

I have a '75 115hp that is doing the exact same thing. it doesn't miss its like it just won't GO... if you know what i mean.


How would you test ignition? I've checked the carbs and they looked brand new out of a box?
