75 HP Mercury Force identification

I am in the process of buying a small boat with a 75 HP Mercury Force outboard from an estate. It appears as if there was a tag on the transom mount with the serial number, etc., but that tag is gone and I cannot determine the date of manufacture of this motor. Is there some other part with a unique number that would be associated with the actual year that this motor was built, or am I looking in wrong place? Thanks in advance.

Take the top cowl off and on the top of the motor there should be a sticker from mercury with emissions info, year built, timing specs, and how many cc's the motor is.

The Force/Mercury didn't all have the info sticker under the hood like the Mercs.
They had a sticker on the transom mount.
Look on the starter.It's possible the man date is on it.Might be original???
The mid section back of the motor.Remove it.It might have a foundry mark.It's a circle with the date and month stamped there(maybe).

Looks like they made the 75HP motors from 1996 - 1999. It should have the Mercury CDM ignition system.

Went over the motor carefully with a flashlight and could not find anything that looked like a date-code. One of the stamped numbers might be a serial number of some sort, but not a date that is within the last 100 years. It appears that there were almost no changes in components in those years that the 75 HP was made (1996-1999), so I guess I'm stuck with that. Thanks for all your replies.

The lower unit was different on the 1999 model. It used the lower unit from the 95-99 90hp and 120 hp.

So the 1999 model used a different water pump impeller from the 96-98 models.

That is real useful information. I noticed that the part number for the impeller was different and was confused because a Merc mechanic said they were all the same. Now, all I have to figure out is if this thing is a '99 or earlier. Thanks much.

The 96-98 models have a coupler and jam nut on the shift rod, near the transom mount. Shift rod should move up and down when you shift.

The 99 model will not have this. The 2 pieces if the shift rod slip inside each other in a
splined connector (hidden) on the top of the lower unit. Shift rod should rotate when you shift.
