leaking milky oil by the prop. Figured it was the lower seal. Looking at my manual I don't see any specific directions to changing these out. I s there any concerns or special procedures I need to go about to replace these?

Not really just watch out for the power in those split rings they can do human damage in an instant

The 2 big circlips do not need to be removed in order to pull out the bearing housing.--------Leakage you describe can be quite normal for that motor when idling on a hose.-----Is any water getting into the gear oil ??

In reply to "Is any water getting into the gear oil", I would have to say Yes, I believe that is what's turning my oil milky colored. But No I have not directly seen water per sey.

Gearcases are pressure tested to check integrity of the seals.-----------Seals do wear out when shafts spin at 5000 RPM and 2500 RPM

I normally just do all the seals, its often cheaper than paying for a pressure test

Have the gear case pressure and vacuumed checked to see exactly where it is leaking. It may not be the prop shaft seals.

Bosun, how do you know the seal job is done correctly after seal replacement if you don't pressure test it again ?? After a seal job I always test them again.

I take the boat out and then inspect the oil again afterwards. Luckily thats always fixed it for me. Id like a pressure tester system but considering i only look after my friends and their friends outboards i have a few other things up the purchase list to get first.

Boobie is correct, a dealer will test lower units for water intrusion, by doing both a pressure and vacuum test. A lower unit seal kit will come with these parts: a shift rod seal, a shift rod housing seal, a pair of propshaft seals, an upper driveshaft seal, orings for the 4 bearing housing bolts and a large oring for the bearing housing. Any of these can cause water intrusion into the gearcase-including the nylon seals on the two drain/vent plugs. Best to get the whole gearcase seal kit and do them all.
