Hello all again. I have a quick question about the shifting on my boat motor. Ill be tackling into it soon. I have this motor above and when I put it in forward or reverse it goes just fine. But when i put it in neutral it will still be in that gear i was in either forward or a reverse. If i pull the knob a little into forward or reverse of the opposite i was just in then it will slide into neutral. What could this possibly be? It runs, cranks, and shifts good. I just wonder why if im in forward i have to move the handle a hair into reverse past neutral and then it will finally go into neutral and i can then put the handle in the neutral position. It does it in both directions.

You need to buy a manual for your motor. The shift cable can be moved by an adjusting nut on the side of the powerhead where the cables go in.

Would shift rod height being off have anything to do with it? Because I did change the water pump and impeller a couple weeks ago.

The shift cable could also have to much slop in it. Need a new one.

Thanks for sharing the link. Ill take it off sometime soon and see what the length is for good assurance. If that lines up ill end up changing the shift and throttle cables on it.
