Welcome aboard beck:)

I have a '79 SS and it's a great boat. I agree that you might be happier with 70hp, a couple guys here on iboats have gone with 85hp and been happy as well.

Just puts more weight in the stern and uses more fuel, but gets up to 40mph+:D

Here's what my data plate looks like, the numbers will be the same for your '77.

Good luck with the boat, my little boat was my grandfather's and I'm keeping it too.:)

Yep probably rated for 85. I'd hang a 90 without too much concern. Any of the higher horsepower (70-90) 3 cylinders should be excellent motors for that boat. I had a V4 85 on my 16' Jupiter and felt it was a little stern heavy. Not bad though. A Yamaha 3 cylinder 90 would be PIMP! Welcome to the forum. We'd love to see some pics.

HA, is that your plate from 79? I'm pretty sure mine says 6 people at 900 pounds...? I'll have to re-check though.

That's the data plate NB had made up for me, so it's not the right style for '79. The info is correct according to the '79 brochure though.

Either way I would never have more than 5 people in the boat and any given time. 7 adults would be ridiculous:D
