Hi guys!

I wanted to check in with a few people be for I make a purchase. Tomorrow I'm going to pick up a '77 Mariner 85 hp with controls and w/o trim for $400. I've seen the motor run in person and everything seems to be ok. The exterior is also in good clean order for its age.

Is there anything I should be concerned with pertaining to this model/ year motor? I'm going to be mating it with my newly purchased '59 Queen Merrie.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: '77 Mariner question

Did you see it run ON-THE-WATER and IN GEAR?

Running on the hose doesn't prove that ALL cyl's are firing well without a load on the prop.

Test Compression and test spark on each cyl, if both pass fine them you can comfortably relay on the purchase as any problem with the fuel system can be dealt with cleaning/rebuilding carbs and fuel pump.
