Thanks! The numbers are different for the crank case, but the motors are the same era. I guess I won't take the chance unless someone knows exactly what the differences are and what I'd need to adjust to make it work. My seized motor's a 75 and I'm looking at the 77 powerhead as a replacement.

Hi Sam,
It will work. A few things are different, though, but no show stoppers. I'm not sure how much or how little of the '77 you'll be using, but if you're sticking with the '75's ignition, then use the '75 cylinder head. The '77 has CDI ignition and has differently angled spark plug holes. Not sure how much of a difference it makes going backwards, but I know it does going from '75 to '77.
The '77's exhaust cover has the telltale elbow in it, so you'll want to add a hole to the belly pan to accomodate a short length of 1/8" ID hose to run the telltale out.
Everything else should bolt up fine.
