hi everyone great web site,
last year the ol man and me got a deal we couldnt past up a 78 17ft chrysler 115, had to get it. the boat had been siting for many years. anyways we got the manual and went though the whole thing, had horrible compression so we rebuild it, went though the carbs, cleaned the fuel tank, all new fuel lines. got it running again yet it idles great but when its under a load it seems like its getin way to much fuel, bogs down and no power. every once and a while it will take off like a bat outta hell. so we started thinking it might be an electrial problem, replaced the coil 2 days ago figuring its the cheapest place to start. that wasnt the problem, thinking it might be the cdi box or possibly the stator. guess i wanted to get someone's opinion on what might be wrong or if anyone else has had this problem and what they did
thanks

I did read another thread very similar where the fuel pump was leaking into the crankcase..if it goes great on some occasions its worth sticking with ..you will find it

well got the fuel pump rebuild kit, rebuilt it still doin the same thing. i did notice that when you start to give the boat lil gas it will start to advance before the linkage even hits the carbs. i know the ol man n his buddy were screwin with the linkage for everything, and in the manual it says that the 2 nylon pieces for the timing should be bout 3/8 to a 1/2 in apart, and on the boat its more then a inch but thats were its timed out at. could it just not be sync ed in right? i haveta read the book lil more
