All my research and YD, OOPS and ondarvr have all said the Styrene is good, MEK is too, and acetone can be used but only up to about 15% reduction. With MEK they say you can go up to 25%. IF i were to ever shoot GC, I'd go with MEK as my reducer. Especially if I did NOT have a gun with a 2.5 - 3.0mm tip. Just want to remind you one last time, Really pay close attention to the TIME element and shut down and clean that gun WELL before the next load of GC. I use a 5 gal bucket and an old towel to SHOOT the Clean out spray, when painting, into the towel to keep the vapor down and once it's saturated the bucket keeps it contained. Just a thought.
Just popping in to say congrats on the move! You'll love the area. I graduated from Grove City College PA and love to travel down from time to time.
Truly inspiring work on that boat of yours - makes me want to get a project and jump on in. When you're ready to launch on Erie I'd be honored to meet up with you.
I,m mustering up all the GC good karma and sending it your way troop !
Looney Tunes Production !! heh heh heh ! Good one Wood !![]()
Compressor - Harbor Freight has their 6.5 HP 9 gal on sale this month for $499. That equals 10 days rental, but new and no stalling out.
Sea yea...
Trooper, Hoping all goes well for you tomorrow.
I would be very careful thining the gel up to 25% with any kind of reducer.
I have also read not to use acetone. This is straight from ondarvr.
The most I have read is no more than 20% and this will degrade the gel coat.
Ondarvr has told me not to thin the gel if I can shoot it with the spray equipment I have.
My setup is just about the same as yours for spraying.
I will be shooting mine tomorrow also and I'm going without any reducer.
Just my 2 cents worth. Hope everything goes well for you as planed.
Looking forward to seeing how it all works out.
Troop....
Good luck with the move... I hate that you won't be driving through J-town anymore for impromptu lunch meetings, but I'm glad we got to meet in person during your time here in the South...
That garage looks like a nice place for winter boat projects... The house is a nice bonus!!!
I'm down in Baton Rouge this weekend, and the weather is pretty warm down here... (pretty nice gelly coat weather if you ask me!!!).
Wheres the vid Troop ?
